Paws to Read Program

Calling all my fellow ECGRR Rescues!

pawsfriendship1-2My name is Bella, I am a 3yr. old Golden.   ECGRR placed me in my forever home August 2015.  For that I am eternally grateful and have a desire to “give back” to others.

I have recently been certified as a Therapy Dog through (PFF).  I hope to start the first Paws to Read program in the Bay County school system, an extremely successful literacy program already in schools around the state and the country.  My family wants to create an active chapter of PFF in the Panhandle.  I need my fellow rescues help as I cannot do this alone.  As Therapy Dogs, we provide comfort and affection to people of all ages, at schools , care facilities, hospitals, universities, any one in need of a puppy hug to brighten someone’s day.

If you are well socialized and has an owner who wants to share your gift please consider joining.  Certification is not hard or expensive.  PFF has 386 chapters around the world and is fully insured. PFF encompasses every level of Community Outreach, please go to their website to learn more.

If interested, please email as well as contact PFF.  Please help me brighten lives from all walks of life. I can’t do it alone!

We just lost a very dear friend

karenKaren Rossi passed away yesterday.

Known to many as “Kay”, Karen was a long time board member,  a devoted volunteer, and for many of us a very dear friend. Her tireless efforts saved the life of many a golden. There are no words that can adequately describe her contributions to ECGRR or the large empty space her passing leaves for so many of us.

Despite the sadness, we are filled with wonderful memories of how she brightened so many lives – human and four-footed.

Please join us in keeping her family in your thoughts and prayers.

A Winston update …

Michelle writes …

Here is our New Year’s card (I chose to not do a Christmas one so we could announce our new family member!)  … feel free to share on the rescue website.  We are so thankful for Winston.

He is doing wonderful.  Winston had a great day yesterday (first day of normal life, Bryant at school and me at work) and he did wonderful.  He had all his toys waiting at the door when Bryant got home, ready to play.

Thank you so much for this gift!  He is very loved.

ECGRR:  What a great new year for Bryant!

A Captain update …

Elizabeth writes …

…  the attached [is a] picture of our “Captain”, who we adopted through your wonderful organization in the spring.  I knew the boy had it in him!!!!  By now I am sure you heard through the grape vine that he passed Canine Good Citizen training as well as Therapy Dog International evaluations, and is our “newest” Therapy Dog Extraordinaire.  This was  from his first official visit yesterday at Thomas University in Thomasville, where he played with, hugged and comforted several college students in the midst of their final exams.  He was quite a hit, and had a ball to boot.

He is happy, well loved, well cared for, and a beloved addition to a family now.  Thanks for giving him a sixth chance.

ECGRR: our thanks to you for giving this wonderful guy a loving home!!

A Pooh Bear update!

ECGRR at Responsible Dog Ownership Day

We had a great time manning a table at the Responsible Dog Ownership Day event sponsored by the Greater Panama City Dog Fanciers’ Association in Panama City on September 19th.  Foster Sammy and ECGRR alumni Lady were on hand to meet folks and help spread the word about the rescue.

A variety of vendors were present as well as a local TV crew from News 7.  These characters were also observed wandering around the grounds.

In all honesty, it was amazing some of the canine visitors didn’t freak out – but all was well.

While Sammy worked the full shift, Lady had her full of the crowd and laying on the ground after a few hours.

Stressing her dim views on being forced to be outside and not being in the air conditioning,  she took refuge in the back seat of an SUV.

gift-basket-09192015We featured a wonderful Doggie Basket filled with fun toys and treats any furry family member would enjoy as the prize an “email raffle”.  Visitors to the table were asked to sign up to receive the ECGRR Newsletter and at the end of the event we then randomly selected a winner.  Be sure to check out our table/booth at upcoming area events for your chance to win something similar.

ECGRR 2015 Fall Fundraiser

danny-happyfaceOur 2015 Fall Fundraiser (Sep-Dec) will officially kickoff with our participation at the Greater Panama City Dog Fanciers’ Association’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day 2015 on Saturday, Sept. 19th  9am – 3pm.

Our goal is $2,500 and during the fundraiser’s 3 month run, we’ll provide updates and tie it into some other events like Dog Daze in FWB.

This year we saw almost a 2x increase in the medical costs expended per Golden Rescued.  Your generous donations will help us recover!

Online fundraising for ECGRR 2015 Fall FundraiserECGRR is a volunteer run organization and a private non-profit that does not receive any government funding. We rely on private donations, fundraisers, and grants.  100% of monies raised goes towards the care of the rescued dogs including medical, food and behavioral training if needed.   Of that,  90% is used for medically treating these surrendered and homeless dogs including heartworm treatment and spay/neutering.

Our 2014 average expenditure on each rescued dog taken into our program was $694.  In 2013 the cost per dog was $362.

While our online system is set for a $10 minimum donation amount, we have some suggested donation amounts that give an idea of what our expenditures are with most dog intakes.  These include:

  • $50 6 pack Heartguard Plus
  • $100 Pay/Neuter assistance
  • $150 Medical Exam/blood & fecal test/microchip/shots
  • $400 Heartworm treatment (low avg)

There are many, many other costs depending on the condition of the dog that can range from a basic bath and grooming (strays picked up by animal control can be pretty stinky!), treatments for worms and other medical issues such as:

  • eye/ear infections
  • skin conditions and allergies
  • removal of tumors (major and minor)
  • hip displaysia

Every donation helps us save these wonderful animals and find them loving homes.  Just click on the donate box above.

pawprint1Unable to donate? Please SHARE this post on Facebook, Twitter and email (see link boxes below). By spreading the word you can help save a furry kid. Thank you!

Thank you in advance for your generous support!
