Ralphie 14010

Appearance:  Ralphie is a golden retriever puppy approximately 6/7 months old at the beginning of March 2014.  His fur is long, gold and curly and he was 42 pounds when surrendered.   He is fine boned so he likely to stay on the small side when he reaches his full growth.

People and Kids:  Ralphie is a very happy puppy.  He loves people, children and dogs.  He loves belly rubs, balls, and tug of war toys.  He likes to chomp on empty water bottles and chew on his bones.  He has shown some tendency to hoard the bones in his kennel.

Animals:  Ralphie has been in a couple of foster homes that have resident dogs and he loves everybody!  – including the crotchety older female that has given birth to too many puppies.   (He did learn to keep his distance after a few quiet growls.)  His feelings about cats are unknown as his foster homes do not have cats.

Skills:  Ralphie is house trained and crate trained.  He has learned some basic commands.  He likes to pirouette when on a leash and he is still jumping up to greet.  But he is trying to do better.  He is a puppy!

Health:  Ralphie has been neutered, is heart worm negative and is up to date on vaccines.  He is in excellent health except for the torn ligament in right rear leg.  After TTA or extracapsular surgery to repair the leg, the tissues in Ralphie leg will have to heal over time.  The post operative phase will mostly involve several weeks of kennel rest with very brief calm leash walks for bathroom breaks only.  There will be some physical therapy.

Overall:  Simply, Ralphie is a very happy golden retriever male puppy.  He’s happy.  He likes people and dogs.  He probably likes cats, too – we just don’t know how much.  He requires some special attention after his surgery but, after that, he should have a normal life.
