Before contacting us, please read the following …
(your question with an answer might be listed here!)
-
Do you have any goldens available to adopt?
When dogs are available for adoption we list them on the Available For Adoption section. Frequently a dog comes in to our organization and we have an immediate match with an adopter on file. In those instances the dog may not be listed as available. For information on how to adopt and submitting an adoption application, visit our Adoptions page.
-
Do you have a place where we can look at all the dogs?
No. There is no central location. Dogs under our care (available or not) stay in volunteer foster homes across the Florida panhandle.
-
You have a P.O. Box listed. Is there a physical address so I can drop something off?
No. From past experience this is best for the privacy and safety of our volunteers. When we had a physical address listed, people would show up at odd hours and even drop off dogs with no notice (or left tied up).
-
Do you have any golden puppies? I′d like to get one.
We seldom have puppies in our program. If you really want a puppy, please consider your local shelter or a reputable breeder.
-
If I surrender my golden to ECGRR, can I meet the prospective adopter?
This is not possible. In order to be an effective rescue we must respect the privacy of all parties involved.
-
Do you accept toys and other items for dogs in your care?
While your gesture is much appreciated, the best way to assist us is with a monetary donation. We never know if a toy or other object will be to a dog’s liking but donations go to their direct care and medical needs. Most goldens that we take in require several hundred dollars in medical care – some go well over $1000.
-
My golden doesn′t behave and needs training. Will you do that for me?
No. Our mission and resources are for the rescue of Golden Retrievers and re-homing them but we do have the Training Your Dog section that may help.
-
My golden bit someone and I want it gone. Will you take it?
Probably not. Our insurance policy prohibits us from taking in dogs with a bite history.
-
I saw/heard about a golden in need of being rescued. How do I let you know?
For dogs owned by other people, please have the owner contact us directly and complete our surrender form. We are not a state/local agency and have no enforcement powers to seize a dog.
For goldens that are in local shelters, chances are we’ve been notified but it is always a good idea to let us know. Every shelter has different rules as to who and how they release dogs to rescues. Some place a priority on adoptions to the general public over rescues – we’ve had cases where we have said we’d take a golden and not be allowed to do so (yes, we don’t understand that logic) . There are also rules and regulations on how long a stray must remain at a shelter before it is available. We maintain regular contact with the majority of shelters in the FL panhandle.
-
Do you rescue other breeds of dogs or cats?
We are a Golden Retriever Rescue and our efforts are focused on that breed. Golden mixes are taken in on a case-by-case basis. We do not rescue other breeds or cats.
-
I don′t live in the Florida panhandle. Will you take my golden in?
The best place to start is with a rescue near you. Best way is through a google search or THIS WEBSITE.
-
Can you watch my dog for a period of time? I′m having some personal problems.
No. All dogs that we take in are surrendered to our organization.
-
Do you have any paid positions or job openings?
We are an all volunteer organization – no paid positions. For more information on what our volunteers do, CLICK HERE.
